Rodeway Places First in Cruise Passenger Survey

Rodeway Inns and Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port is the hotel near Port Everglades most favored by cruise passengers, according to a new survey released today.

During the 2014/15 cruise season, more than 1,800 passengers from 20 cruise ships embarking from Port Everglades were questioned about their cruise habits.

The Port Everglades Cruise Passenger Survey found that more passengers selected Rodeway Inn and Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port for their pre-cruise stay or post-cruise stay than any other local hotel.

“We’re a full-service budget hotel that offers everything the cruise passenger needs,” says Izzy Fintz, general manager at Rodeway Inn and Suites Fort Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port. “We have free shuttles, free breakfast and free WiFi, and we’re just three miles from the airport or the cruise port.”

More than half of the passengers questioned said they stayed at a hotel for at least one day prior to their cruises. More than 20% of passengers questioned said they stayed at a hotel for at least one day following their cruises. Of those passengers who stayed at a hotel prior to cruising, nearly half of them also stayed at a hotel for at least one day following their cruises.

Other interesting information uncovered by the report includes:

  • Post-cruise passengers spend more per day than pre-cruise passengers. Pre-cruise passengers spent an average of $806 per 3-person group on the day before their cruise; post-cruise passengers spent $933 per 3-person group on the day following their cruise.
  • Canadians are well represented. Toronto provided the most passengers of any city, while Calgary, Montreal and Ottawa also made the Top 12.
  • Fifteen percent of those surveyed were experiencing their first cruise. Twenty-seven percent of respondents reported cruising once each year, while 18% said they cruise twice each year. Sixteen percent of the people who responded said they cruise once every two years.

The 24-question survey was administered to cruise passengers during March. The report’s authors also questioned cruise passengers about their originating city, how they arrived at the port, how they booked their cruises, and which age groups were represented most prominently.
